Renowned journalist & book writer associated with Newsweek and Institute of Peace, Mr. Roy Gutman visited Pakistan & Afghanistan and wrote a book "How We Missed the Story: Osama bin Laden, the Taliban, and the Hijacking of Afghanistan". Mr. Ahmed Mukhtar assisted him on the book writing, reviewing and editing.

Challenges for Professional Journalists in Pakistan

Pakistan media industry is always seems to be in a crisis. The owners of media houses have their own opinion while the unions of journalists & media workers have their own issues. A Comprehensive presentation on "Challenges for Professional Journalists in Pakistan" cover the legal, financial, administrative and individual issues faced by the journalists & media worker. The presentation was made during "National Conference on “National Security; Nation Building and Mass Media” organized by Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies in November 2018 in Islamabad.

Budget Analysis from a Child Rights Perspective

Child Protection is a key emerging issue in Pakistan, as the recent cases of Zainab and other kids murdered in cold blood. Media has paid much coverage to such henious crimes, but have we done enough to control such crimes. The root cause to know and control these henious crimes are vital for the vulnerable segments of the society. The other issue is also convey the key issues concerned in this problem. The right media and the right issues. It still needs serious and concerted effort. We are trying to figure out and help explain the media and authorities, these details.

Sahiwal Literacy Program 2005-2008

Sahiwal Literacy Program, initiated by Mr. Ahmed Mukhtar, was based on the World Bank studies which identified the missing facilities from the schools and educational set ups. The key interventions include conducting classes of adults, who work in various markets in the day times. Basic desktop computers were donated by various donors of Islamabad delivered to the Government College and Jinnah Public Library, Sahiwal. The government College was paid for the internet connections. Two documents were prepared and distributed among students for guidance. One was the list of available scholarships local and the other was a list of degrees offered and educational institutions for the guidance of students.

The Case for Media Reforms in Pakistan

There are more than 150 laws, regulations and court orders about media in Pakistan but the fastest growing electronic media doesn't have any law about service structure and safety & security of journalists. There is also a lack of integration among the existing laws. This short documentary is produced for IRADA to discuss the media reforms in Pakistan. The leading journalists, experts and legislatures talked about the issue.

Battling Vulnerabilities, Combating Threats

The journalists in Pakistan are facing multi-dimensional threats from non-state and state actors. The nature of threats are kidnapping, killing, job security, threats to family from political, religious and extremist groups as well. The lack of safety & security from state institutions and lack of facilities & professional training from media houses escalated the intensity of the threats. This short documentary is produced for the Freedom Network Pakistan in which the leading media persons and experts talked about the issues faced by the Pakistani journalists.

Safeguarding Journalist through Safety Legislation

Pakistan is in top ten countries where the number of killed journalists during the line of duty is very high. And unfortunately, the culture of impunity is also being encouraged by the responsible quarters. Despite the high number of attacks on journalists, the measure to stop this culture including appropriate legislation and safety & security measures by media houses are not being taken properly. This report was produced for the Freedom Network Pakistan to discuss the situation and suggest the measures to discourage the culture of impunity.
